Final College Project Renderings

Hi! this is my first post, Im a freshly graduated Industrial Designer from Argentina! I wanted to share some renderings I did for my final uni project. We worked with reclaimed wood from construction sites, cleaned it and prep it accordingly to make furniture out of it. We also made a prototype of the chair you see, so production aspects were very important for us. We wanted to emphasize the story behind the material we used and from where it came.
Something that I struggled quite a lot was being able to reproduce the real state of the wood in the renderings. I think that if I had mastered the material graph a little bit better I would have been able to produce much more realistic renderings.

I really love the concept of the wood and the construction metal! It’s maybe a bit clean if it’s reclaimed wood (especially if it’s from a construction site :)) but love the renders as well. If you want to make really old/weathered wood you could also take a look at Substance Painter which has really nice ways to create a certain wear of all kinds of materials. Afterwards you just import the Substance Painter textures back into Keyshot.

Thank you for the feedback and the info!

Appreciate it!

This is so cool! I really love the exploded views.

If you can get a few fairly high-res photos of the actual wood - it’s pretty simple to make some Photoshop modifications and use them to drive the diffuse / bump / roughness / etc. If you have any on hand you can share I am happy to show you.

I have always found these two videos to be the most useful for understanding the Material Graph. The second one really shows how to use the Polligon textures @bradley.adelmann mentioned.

Don’t forget about www.HDRIhaven.com for free lighting resources as well!

Besides the photos for the renders, here are some pictures I took the day of the final exposition!
